Your question has several parts to it. I have been studying jewellery design in Italy for 2 years, so I hope I can help you with some of the answers.
Jewellery making and stone setting, at least over here, are two separate fields. One of my instructors has been working for over 20 years as a goldsmith, but does not do stone setting, for example. This could be different where you are, however.
Soldering is done with gas/air, but it's used to 'glue' pieces together or to melt different metals together to make an alloy. A soldering gun will not work, as the heat (flame) must be hot enough to weld pieces together.
To put a diamond into a ring requires a setting, like the previous writer explained, so the light can shine through, giving the diamond it's sparkle. Because of it's hardness, diamonds are one of a very few stones that can handle the heat; other stones will break when a flame is put to it.
The equipment and materials are expensive, but if you are serious about studying, I would recommend taking a course for hands-on experience. They should provide the larger tools needed, like a laminator, which flattens the metal, benches, drills, gas, etc.as well as tools you need to start out. The school that I am attending provides us with silver and stones, but not all may do that.

I'm 35yrs with 4 children (all my own). I have three boys, ages 9, 7 and 3 and a baby girl who was born in Aug 2007.
My husband and I planned on having 2, MAYBE 3 kids at the most, but deep down I wanted a big family. I'm one of three and have step siblings as well and really enjoyed that large family atmosphere. I don't know how I did it, but I talked my husband into having 4 kids.
I believe my children are the way there are because of my and my husband's parenting methods, not because there are 4 of them. I've seen only children behave better than mine and only children behave worse. I honestly don't think that has much of an impact on a child's behavior. It's how the parents react and teach that does.
Whether we had 1 child or 7 children, we would still treat and raise them the same way we do now. I think the only thing that is different about them compared to smaller families because of the number of children in our family is giving support. Whether it's a soccer game, piano recital, school play etc, ALL OF US go to cheer that one on. They all have their chance to shine in front of the family.

Those are surface mount devices never intended to be hand soldered. It can be done with care and skill though. First you need to know how to solder in the first place. Dont use your leds to learn on. you will have to buy some electronic soldering flux (rosin) and some thin solder wire as low melting temp as you can get. like 60/40 tin/lead solder. you will have to carefully "tin"(coat with melted solder) the led mounting pads and the wire end you want to attach. then with a coating of flux on both join them then apply heat till the solder melts and NO MORE, you should consider getting a heat sink clip to try to keep the heat down in the led itself. Dont forget to "tin" your soldering iron tip first and keep it clean and freshly tinned.
