What is the difference between Cost Price and Wholesale Price?

A friend of mine is planning to start his Business on the Internet and he's got a list of suppliers who are selling their goods at wholesale price.. From my understanding, websites like Ebay has sellers who are selling goods at wholesale price as well.. I'm quite unsure what exactly is the difference between Cost Price and Wholesale Price.. I do understand what Cost Price is.. Anyone here to help me out please?

Usually wholesale price is when you get large lots from the distributor, and you get a good price for buying in quantity. Then you sell them, marking them up.
If you sell something “at cost” then you are basically selling it for what you got it for (wholesale, usually), typically only done if you just want to get rid of the merchandise.
Otherwise “cost price” is what you sell it to the consumer for, but from your description, I think you mean “at cost” price.
Suppliers selling at wholesale are either making money doing shipping and handling, or just trying to unload merchandise they got, if indeed they really are selling it at what they got it for.
It’s also possible they got material that was dumped below wholesale price, and so to sell it at “wholesale price” they are actually making money, because it’s still more than what they got it for.
wholesale prices are usually given when a buyer wants to buy a lot of something. say for example a supermarket wants to buy a lot of cereal boxes to put on their shelves. the supplier gives them a lower price (wholesale price) than if someone was just buying say 1 or 2 of that item.
cost price is the wholesale price that supermarket bought something at, plus a certain percentage to cover for their costs of maintaining the shop (salaries, utility bills, taxes, etc, etc), however the cost price does not include any profit for that supermarket (the profit still has to be added to their cost price)

In most basic terms, the cost price is the how much a manufacturer actually spends to make an item. The wholesale price is then a mark up on the cost price for the manufacturer to make a profit. Beyond that there is also the retail price where the retailer marks up from the wholesale price for profit.
Usually manufacturers can offer a wholesale cost at a lower markup because a retailer agrees to buy a certain amount of product higher than a typical consumer.
